For individuals who look fine on the outside but feel strained on the inside
For when you've tried everything and the same patterns keep repeating
Range of cases supported - from struggling with the day-to-day to Trauma & PTSD
You might not be able to put your finger on exactly what's wrong. But something feels off. Or unsustainable.
Maybe it's the same situation showing up again, or just a sense that the way you've been managing isn't working as well as it once did.
You're not broken. And you're not failing.
Often, the patterns that exhaust us now made sense at one time. They helped us get through difficult situations or relationships. But what once worked can stop working - and trying harder on your own doesn't always shift it.
I work with people at this point. Where they’re not sure exactly
what's happening or why, but knowing something needs to change.

Does This Sound Familiar?
Whether or not you personally use the term "trauma," you might feel or wonder if you're carrying elements of strain or difficulty from your past. Below are some of the common issues people seek help for. If any of these sound like you, a conversation might be helpful.
Do the same situations keep repeating?
Different job, same burnout. Different relationship, same dynamic. You've tried to break the cycle, but it keeps pulling you back in.
Do you find you can't say "No" without guilt?
Putting yourself first feels selfish. Saying no feels impossible. You're exhausted from managing everyone else's expectations while your own needs go unmet.
Something feels stuck, but you can't name what?
You've tried to figure it out on your own. You've analysed it, talked yourself through it, and waited for it to pass. But the feeling persists - like you're moving through life but everything’s feeling harder than it ought to.
You feel like you’re barely above water?
You may look fine to everyone else. Inside, you're running on empty. The coping strategies that got you this far aren't working anymore, and you're tired of holding it together alone.

Who Am I & How Can I Help?
I'm Harriet Coulthard, a trauma therapist working with people across the UK who feel stuck in patterns they can't seem to break, even when they're doing everything "right."
I specialise in helping people who are functioning on the outside but feel strained on the inside. People who've tried to cope on their own and are ready for support that actually addresses what's underneath.
What makes my approach different - and how it can help you:
I don't assume you need to relive everything to heal.
People worry that trauma therapy will force them to dig up painful memories or push them into emotional overwhelm. That's not how I work. We start by creating stability and understanding, so you feel grounded first, not more unstable.
We build a stable base before anything else - Before we explore what happened in the past or make big changes, we strengthen the ground beneath you. This means you leave sessions feeling more capable, not emotionally drained or unable to cope with daily life.
I adapt to what you actually need - Some people need to understand why they keep repeating the same patterns. Others need practical tools to help them get through the day. Some need to process specific experiences they've never talked about. We always start where you are at.
You stay in control - You're never pushed to share more than you're ready for. Therapy should feel safe, not scary. We go at your pace, and you decide what we focus on.

How You Can Benefit from Therapy:
What Changes When You Get Support

You feel more grounded and less reactive
Instead of feeling constantly on edge or spiralling when something goes wrong, you start to feel steadier. You can pause before reacting. Small things don't knock you off balance the way they used to.

You see new possibilities
The feeling of being stuck (like things will always be this way) starts to vanish. You realise it doesn't have to keep being how it's always been. It will feel like a weight lifting - not all at once, but enough that you can finally breathe properly again.

You can set boundaries without guilt
Saying no stops feeling impossible. You start to put yourself first sometimes. Not out of selfishness, but because you finally understand that your needs matter too. And you do it without the crushing guilt or fear of disappointing others.

You stop repeating the same cycles
The pattern of burning out at work, or relationships falling into the same dynamic, or overgiving until you're empty. You start to recognise it all happening. You respond differently before it takes over.

You have tools that work when life gets hard
You're not just gritting your teeth through difficult moments. You have practical skills to ground yourself, manage difficult emotions, and cope without collapsing back into old patterns.

You're choosing, not just surviving
Life stops feeling like something that happens to you. You start making conscious choices about how you want to live, what you want to prioritise, and how you want to show up - rather than being pulled along by patterns you can't control.

Let's talk: book your free, no-pressure introductory video-call
If you've read this far, something's probably resonating. I offer a free 30-minute introduction where we just chat 1-to-1. No pressure or forced commitment to decide on anything yet.
We'll talk about:
What's been happening
You can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. I'll ask a few questions to get a sense of where you are.
Whether I think I can help
I'll let you know whether this approach is right for your situation - or if there might be something else that fits better.
What it would look like to work together
If it feels like a good fit, I'll explain how we'd start and what you can realistically expect.

By the end, you'll have a much clearer sense of whether this is the right step for you. No pressure. Just an honest conversation.
What to Expect: The Therapy Process
Here's what happens if you decide to move forward:
1
Step 1: Free No-Pressure 30-Minute Chat
We talk, and you can share what's been happening. I'll ask a few questions to understand where you’re at and what you’d like to get from therapy. I'll let you know if I can help and what the rest of the process will look like. This is no-pressure and no-obligation conversation.
2
Step 2: Complete Your Assessment Session
In this first paid therapy session, we’ll start to map your history, your current challenges, and your goals. This is a chance to get to know you better and for us to start building rapport so that you feel comfortable.
3
Step 3: Ongoing Therapy; Stability & Growth
We’ll meet at a frequency that works for you; most clients like to begin with weekly sessions. In the early sessions, we’ll help you operate from a stable base before exploring further. We go at your pace and focus on giving you the space and equipping you with the tools to provide lasting change.
Most people see meaningful shifts within a few months. Some choose to continue longer. There's no minimum commitment; we work together for as long as it's helping.

Your Investment & What's Included
You're never locked in. We work together for as long as it's helping, and you can stop whenever you need to. Most people see meaningful change within a few months, but every person is different.
What's included:
1-hour sessions with enough time to actually work through things
Approach tailored to your specific situation - never generic advice
I never book back-to-back sessions, so we can warp up without feeling rushed
Regular check-ins to ensure we're on track
Why people invest in therapy:
When coping strategies stop working, the question isn't just "Can I afford this?"- it's "What's the cost of not addressing this now?"
Patterns left unaddressed don't stay the same. They compound. Burnout deepens. Relationships repeat the same cycles. The emotional strain builds. And the longer it continues, the harder it becomes to shift.
Therapy isn't about fixing everything instantly. It's about finally understanding what's been keeping you stuck, and learning how to move forward in a way that's actually sustainable.
